This publication on the theme – DESIGN AS AN EQUALIZER is a monograph based on studio projects done with a Universal Design approach, by students from various institutes across India. The papers illustrate inclusive design solutions for diverse typologies of spaces and functions, ranging from a public toilet to an urban design project that try to address the broadest spectrum of users including people with disabilities. This book will be a useful reference for every individual concerned with the design of the constructed environment, be it a student, educator or professional and shall facilitate learning through examples of academic projects demonstrating use of Universal Design philosophy and principles. The examples included in the book illustrate how a Universal Design approach can enhance the functionality and usability of a built environment without compromising with the aesthetics. The book shall serve as a means for infusing the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ for developing an inclusive society.
